The video for the song World On Fire is a really inspirational and intense video that can get anyone thinking. When I read the lyrics to the song before I saw the video, I thought the meaning behind the song had to do with herself. And her struggles. But after seeing the video I see that she wasn't thinking of her life, she was thinking of others. This really got to me. I thought, people really think of others before themselves and publicly display it? And then I thought about the fact that that surprised me, and that made me confused and upset.
It shouldn't be a big deal to make a nice gesture towards someone else. It should just be a part of everyday. It should't be a big deal to use some of your salary to help others without a salary. It should be a given. But it's not. And that's where the confusion comes in. Why isn't it a fact of life that people are caring about people bedsides themselves or people in their building. Why did an awareness video have to be made for people to realize and care? That shouldn't be the case. It should be that no one is hungary, or could, or hopeless. There is enough food for the entire world. There is enough money, there are enough houses. Why does yours have to be so big? Why do some people have multiple million dollar houses? Why do some people have nothing?
This video really showed me who I am. Who I know, and make friends with. How rich my neighborhood is, because everyone I know has a nice house, and enough money left over for fun. It showed me how far from these poor places I am, not just in physical difference, but financially. It showed me how much we overspend on stuff, just stuff. These small amounts of money to us, make the world to people that freeze to death, starve to death, get diseases and die, because they can't pay for medicine.
It showed me that if I pay a little a month to a place that is suffering, I can make the difference that means everything to one family. But if everyone I know, with a little extra change, does the same, it can make a differences that means everything to an entire community.
