I just read an article from the People Are Awesome column. It was called People Are Awesome: The Coffee Shop Where Everyone Pays For Everyone Else's Drink". It was about a coffee shop in Bluffton, South Carolina where people pay for other stranger's coffee. It started with a woman who came in and left $100 extra to pay for everyone's coffee after her until it ran out. People heard about it and are now doing the same.
The main idea the author is trying to convey is that there are people that have compassion and care. Often times we only hear about the bad in the world, because there is a lot of it, but there is also a lot of good, and that is what this article is about. In the article it says, "People will come in and say, 'What do you mean? I don't understand. Are you trying to buy me a coffee today?'"This shows that most people aren't accustomed to generosity and kindness for no reason. But what the author is saying is that there is. And that people should know about it, so that they can experience the kindness and provide it. The article also says, "Now, more and more customers have been leaving money to pay for others' food and drink."This just shows the effect one person can have on a coffee shop, town, world.
I wish that when I turned the news on in the morning I heard stories like this. But I don't. I hear stories about racial profiling, teens going missing, and brutal cellphone robberies. So my idea of the world is that it is full of crime and hate, an that is what most people's ideas are. But there isn't only that. Society just doesn't make it easy to hear about the good in the world. And when people know about the good, they feel the need to also carry on the kindness, as sown in the article. So I think that more and more stories like this should be shared publicly so people feel the need to "Pay It Forward".
Wow, it's really nice to hear about people being kind to one another. You're right, the articles and news reports we hear about are mainly about what other awful things have gone down in our world. This article shows that kindness is contagious. If people do more of these kindness acts, eventually our world will be a better place.
ReplyDeleteI like how you chose an uplifting atricle and showed how it made your day. I agree that we do have problems in our world that are big and nasty so its nice to hear about a random act of kindness. It's also nice to know that one good thing can start a chain of more good things.

I totally agree, like everyday my parents tell me about these horrible stories, and I hate it so much I LOVE what you're saying and I totally agree. This article seems really interesting, and this coffee shop should be a role model to everything else in the world. I totally agree that it's great to hear about the great people in the world and I wish I could hear more about them. LOVE this!!!!!
