I think it is shocking that even the police ignore the trafficking. On page 159, Lakshmi sees the Police come in and Mumtaz pays them and they leave. I think a really strong line from this section is "'She gives this one money each week and he looks away.'" I really think this line shows how trafficking still exists and isn't being stopped. It disgusts me that people who's job is to keep others safe "look the other way". And then this happens horrible things like child sex trafficking happen. I was just really sad and angry to read this line because it is selfish and cruel and irresponsible that the police take the money and let criminal activity happen under their watch and they pretend it isn't happening. When people pretend issues aren't happening, that's when the issues get worse and crimes slip by without notice.
